Fattoria San Donato

Allora ,
Haha, I have been dying to use that word! That is probably the most common word used in Italy. For one of my classes, we went on a field trip. The trip was scheduled at night so the quality of my pictures are not that great but I got a few. Fattoria San Donato is a farm, they have vineyards and wineries, wine and oil...and lots of other products. The farm is owned by a family, so a few of the wines are named after the owners daughters which is pretty cool. This place was nice, although it was dark and I couldn't view the whole place I seen where the wine was stored and got to talk with the owners. When we arrived the place was set up for us, the owners had tables set up for us with tons of food. This food was all made by them to welcome our group. We had baked bread with olive oil (SO GOOD, especially warm), salami, cheeses, and Prosciutto which i realized i love (aged ham). Here are some pictures...

Fabric Styling

CIAO !
I realized I haven't really updated on school. So wrapped up in the beauty of this place I forgot to show what I have been up to in classes. On Mondays I have Fabric Styling. This class is pretty interesting. We have done some cool things. For example we learned how to make our own block prints. A block print is a print that repeats itself in a 4 block pattern. This block print was created using inspiration from different themes. My theme was Acqua...I used the corralo color theme. So I had to draw something from this inspiration...the coral color made me think of coral reef of course, and then I began to think of starfish and and seaweed. We created mood boards to show our inspiration and then drew up some sketches. After our sketches we colored them in....then made our own stencils. The stencils were then used to create my pattern onto fabric. So I have my own block print on a piece of fabric now pretty cool.

Today in class we worked on painting on silk. I really liked the outcome of this. We took pieces of silk and painted on the fabric free hand. Using two different colors gives a cool pattern effect because the colors start to bleed into each other eventually. Then I did the salt on silk technique, which is where you strategically spread Epson salt onto your piece of fabric. The salt absorbs the color of the paint and creates little patterns itself. Here are some pictures....I would love to work with this technique it was alot of fun, most likely whatever you do the outcome is nice.

Boboli Gardens

Hello Again...
This weekend I tagged along with my roommate Rachel and went to the "Boboli Gardens." To my surprise this was not much of a garden, meaning I expected to see exotic flowers everywhere ! It was still a nice place to see nevertheless. It was very green I could say, with lots of interesting statues. The view of the city was beautiful from the garden though , you could overlook the town and see the Duomo perfectly. I got my workout in since it was a pretty hilly place, but worth it. After all this walking and photo taking we worked up an apetite. We were going to stop and get a gelatto , but we decided to get some real food. Gusta Pizza was on the way home so why not ? We shared a pizza for 5 euros which is pretty good, and plus they made it in a heart shape for us :).

1 month Celebration

Ciao !
Hi readers....I have been on a little blogging break once again I get so busy and don't get a chance to post all my pictures, But I am here! Last week marked the 1st month that I have been in Italy ! Honestly time is flying by!!! So the girls and I decided to have a big family style dinner. The girls down stairs also cooked and joined us, so we had 10 people sitting at our table...which thankfully pulls out. Just to name a few things we had on our menu ; potatoes and chicken seasoned in a tomato cheese sauce (made by yours truly), veggies and rice, Sausage, mac and cheese, guacamole, bruschetta, and even a chocolate cake and ice cream ! A couple of girls that live in the apartment below me are from Holland. They came to the dinner and made a pastry they eat in Holland, I loved them...the pastry was called "appelflappen". The dessert is made with pie dough I believe and chopped apples and cinnamon. They are similar to crab rangoon or empanadillas except they are filled with chopped fruits. Our table was set up with a nice table cloth, complete with place settings. We had such a good time ! Everything honestly came out well, especially since most of us don't cook at home! Makes me feel good i'm not the only one who is learning how to cook day by day ! But I am doing pretty well if i should say myself. Didn't poison anyone so I've been pretty successful. We all agreed this has to happen again ! Eveyone was satisfied at the end !

Ciao Ciao..
Look for another update very soon, A trip to the Boboli gardens !
